I'm sorry, mama, that would break my heart too. :( I hope your babe decides to make her appearance sooner rather than later, so the modified bedrest will be lifted! (I was on full bedrest with my twins for 11 weeks, it sucked, but I only had one at home and my Mom came to live with us.)

I don't know what to say in your situation. One thing we've done is broaden the praise/ comments to all of our children. For example, when someone makes over Laurel's blue eyes, I say, "Yes, Laurel has her daddy's eyes, and David and Bethel have my brown eyes." I've told them the story of Amy Charmichael who prayed for blue eyes when she was four, and how she discovered God gave her brown eyes for an important reason.

I think our responses to child development can also make a difference. Instead of lamenting when a child is in a "bad" stage, we have to discipline our words and thoughts to enjoy each season of our children, bumpy stages and all. Instead of saying "Stop growing so fast!" or talking about a child "8 but going on 18" in jest, we can simply express our delight in their growing skills and maturity.

I read in a book that asking "what if" is not dwelling on what is true (i.e. real). This thought comes from Phil. 4:8. If you are thinking this way, then you are not resting in your Savior. I know it's not easy when one is dealing with a pregnancy after losing a baby. But you must realize that God is in control, and He wants what is best for you, for your family, and for this new little girl. Even after she is born, you are not "out of the woods." I hate to throw that "downer" out there, but you never know what's going to happen. When it's our time to go, it's our time to go. So, think about what is TRUE/REAL. The here and now. Enjoy your girls and this pregnancy. Love you!

So fun! Jonathan started reading through some stories with the boys before Christmas, and though the didn't remember everything, they did get the main gist.

He read Roverandum (It's Tolkein, but he wrote it for his little boy when his puppy got lost to cheer him up and the boys really liked it) and started Winnie the Pooh (the original one). Of course in the first story from Winnie the Pooh, he gets chased by bees and my kids are terrifies of bees! :-)

I can't wait to read Narnia with my kids :-)

You're too hard on yourself. I'm sure you're a great mom, simply because you worry about not being one! those moms who seem to have it all together really don't. I've learned that every one has struggles that can't always be seen, the grass always seems greener, but it's not!
Just be the best mom you can be with the circumstances you've been dealt. Engage with your kids fully when you are able. Watching some TV won't kill them.
the fact that your daughter wanted only you when sick says so much - you're her safe spot. that says a whole lot more about you being a good mom than having a clean house!

your "milestone" comments reminded me that miracles/the unexpected do happen. Happy for you! Will pray more for your pregnancy. Don't forget that if God has bedrest planned for you, worry about it won't avoid it. You already know you have fabulous friends who will help in a heartbeat! That being said I will pray that bp stays good and it's not necessary to utilize them :)!!!!!!! I'm slowly making my way through a book by Jerry Bridges, "Trusting God". Excellent book, but I wish trusting weren't so hard. I like your weekly update :)

Nicole, Your children are young. They have not been spoiled by the situations that God has lovingly planned out for them. Your ideas are great, although you may find that some traditions develop over the years more than are created by deliberate planning. It's good to plan, but one day you'll look back and realize that you fall into certain patterns all on your own, while many things you planned on being traditions just didn't develop like you thought they might. Your children may see the patterns before you do. Listen to them. And you also may find that something you did three years out of ten stick in your children's minds as something "we always do" for Christmas. Grace abundant, isn't it?!

We always took our kids to all the ultrasounds, and with the twins it was a lot! Bring some coloring books if they get wiggly. It's a wonderful opportunity for them to see the baby, but maybe you could have them write down the gender in case it's not what the girls are hoping for, then you can tell them in your own way.

I took my kids and they enjoyed it - Aidan got a bit wiggly toward the end but if Tim will be there I say definitely take them - it helps them feel like they have a part in the process :-)

I took Katelyn and Michael to my 20 week ultrasound. Michael would have been almost four and Katelyn would have just turned 2. They were somewhat interested in the ultrasound. Katelyn looked at the screen and said look it's a kitty cat. And then the ultrasound tech was looking at the pic and said this little turkey just keeps moving around. Well from then on my kids named the baby turkey and that is all they called the baby till he was born. They would tell people if they asked what the babies name was going to be they would say Turkey but my Mama doesn't really like that name. Michael wanted a brother so much so it was fun to have him their when they said it was going to be a boy! I think you should take the girls. They would enjoy it espeically Natalie.
